Ikigai is a Japanese concept that describes finding your purpose in life. We want to experience and learn about this concept through a martial arts lens together.

In a one-day workshop, we will explore the five key principles of Ikigai:

The five key principles

  • starting small,
  • being in the here and now,
  • harmony & sustainability,
  • the joy of little things and
  • accepting yourself.

By translating these ideas into bodily movement, we want to give you some tools you can use in your everyday life for getting closer to and finding your Ikigai. At the same time, we’ll give you a sense of how our martial art, Jutaijutsu, encompasses and uses Ikigai principles on a regular basis. We hope to inspire you to look for your own purpose and find new things to try for yourself and others.

This workshop is beginner-friendly and anyone can join. You do not need prior martial arts experience or a certain level of fitness. All genders are welcome. Yanagi strives to provide an inclusive environment and we have a code of conduct which you can find here.
